matariki

Totara whanau have been  learning about Matariki. Matariki is the celebration  of Maori New Year. During this time in the sky you can see 7 stars together in a group. They are called the 7 sisters. Matariki  is at the time of the when the harvest season is finished.

During our celebration at school we were allowed to choose from carving, planting, weaving, sewing, making kites. I chose sewing.
First we had to write down  our 1st and 2nd choices. Then we had to draw the out sides of the Marae and I picked a  fabric  with koru
patterns on  it.  Next we had to iron it on then we had to cut out along the outline. We had rip off the glue stuff and then put it on our black sheet. We had to line all our pieces up in order then iron it onto the paper so it stuck Next we stitched along the outlines with a needle and red thread. After that we drew the Matariki stars with pencil on a yellow cloth and cut them out. We had to put some sticky stuff on the back and stick them to our black paper.

I was the first one done! I am proud of my sewing because it is beautiful and looks cool.
